Lactose Intolerance

lactose intolerance

What is lactose?

Lactose is a sugar that is present in all mammalian milks: cow, goat, sheep and humans, and can also be found in many foods. It’s called milk sugar (C12, H22, O11) natural disaccharide composed of glucose and galactose.

What is lactase?

Lactase is an enzyme produced in the small intestine, which plays a vital role in the separation of lactose (a process necessary for absorption by the body) in its two basic components: glucose and galactose. If lactase levels are low or does not perform well the work unfolded, displayed difficulty digesting lactose. Read the rest of this entry »

Types of Allergies

types of allergiesHere are the most common types of allergies:

Asthma. Respiratory disease that causes inflammation of the tubes that carry air to the lungs as a result of excessive sensitivity or allergy to irritants, such as pollen, smoke, dust, certain products or animal hair. It manifests itself choking, coughing, chest tightness and wheezing.

When the person is stable, your breathing may be normal, because air can flow freely into the lungs, but if you have a cold, flu or is exposed to the substances mentioned above, the airways become obstructed. This happens because the walls are inflamed, the muscles contract around them, and it adds high production of mucus, which further narrowed these channels making breathing difficult. It can occur at any age, but hardly within 2 or 3 years is not curable, can only control it. Read the rest of this entry »

What are Allergies?

what are allergies?

The increased incidence of allergies in the world is such that we believe that by 2010 half the population of industrialized countries will suffer some of the types of this disease. The explanation of that happening is the increase of pollutants in the environment, which sensitize defense systems that protect our body.

But all this, what are allergies? Arise as a result of impaired immune system that responds in an exaggerated manner to the presence of substances (called allergens) which is sensitive, and are harmless to most people. These are compounds such as pollen, certain foods, dust, humidity, animal hair, drugs, cosmetics, chemicals or some textiles, among many others, with whom we have constant contact and we can be allergic. Use of Acupuncture For Allergies

Acupuncture For Allergiessome proponents of acupuncture say that the China-based needle therapy may help treat hay fever and allergic rhinitis. Although scientists have yet to confirm the effectiveness of acupuncture for relief of allergy, several studies have shown that acupuncture may be beneficial for people with allergies.

In people with seasonal allergies, the immune system produces an overreaction to normally harmless substances like pollen from plants. Acupuncture, which involves inserting fine needles into specific body points, is to regulate the immune response to allergens. By stimulating these points, the acupuncturist unblocks the flow of vital energy in the body and restores balance to the immune system and the entire body.

Does acupuncture really works for allergies?

In a report published in 2009, scientists reviewed 12 trials and found that acupuncture has not demonstrated superiority over placebo in the treatment of seasonal allergies. In a review published last year, investigators found “sufficient evidence to support or refute the use of acupuncture in patients with allergic rhinitis.”

However, in a clinical trial of 2008 on 5,237 patients with allergies, in which a subset of the patients received up to 15 acupuncture sessions over a period of three months, researchers found that acupuncture treatment offered consistent profits. Another study, published in 2009, showed that the addition of acupuncture to standard treatment can be beneficial and profitable for people with allergies.

Given the conflicting conclusions about the effectiveness of acupuncture as a treatment for allergies, it is too early to recommend this therapy as a first line of defense for allergy. Although acupuncture is generally considered safe, may cause dizziness, local internal bleeding, dermatitis, nerve damage, and / or increased pain (especially when the acupuncturist is not well formed). If you are considering the use of acupuncture for relief of allergies, talk to your doctor about whether treatment is right for you.

Lactose Intolerance: 3 tips for better support

Lactose intolerance symptoms as usual painful stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhea, abdominal pain. Lactose intolerance affects hundreds of millions of people around the world (particularly Asia and in parts of Africa, but Europe is also affected due to a European 4).

dairy

Lactose intolerance occurs when a person is unable to digest lactose (milk sugar) because his body does not have enough digestive enzymes. The problems with lactose intolerance often start around age 2 years, when the body naturally begins to produce less lactase. The lactase enzyme needed to break (down) the sugar in milk (called lactose).

People who suffer from lactose intolerance lack the enzyme. Because the undigested lactose can not be absorbed, he sits in the intestine and is fermented there. This fermentation causes intestinal discomfort.

Getting enough calcium
Milk and dairy products are an important source of calcium. If you suffer from lactose intolerance, the biggest problem is not getting enough calcium when you lowered your intake of dairy products. To compensate, you can:

* Make dietary changes to help you digest lactose,
* Or get calcium from other foods and supplements.

Depending on your age, your gender and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should aim to achieve between 1200 and 1500 milligrams of calcium per day. If you can not get enough calcium from your diet, your doctor may suggest calcium supplements. You’ll also need enough vitamin D in your diet, which is very important to absorb calcium.

Remember that dairy products are not the only sources of calcium. Non-dairy food sources that provide calcium include:

* Green leaves,
* Sea vegetables (nori, kombu, wakame, etc..)
* Oysters
* Canned sardines with bones,
* Canned salmon with bones,
* Tofu
* Orange
* Shrimp,
* Beans and legumes
* Orange juice or soy milk with added calcium.
