Treatment of Conjunctivitis
If you notice these symptoms, consult your ophthalmologist or optometrist. It will make an eye exam to determine if it is conjunctivitis and determine the course of treatment.
Treatment usually has three objectives:
- Reduce irritation and increase comfort
- Control the infection or inflammation
- Preventing the spread of infection
Depending on the cause, treatment may include a combination of iodine and washed with saline, cold compresses, artificial tears, antihistamines, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic drops and / or ointments. If the cause is a viral infection, the virus will run its course – which can take up to three weeks – and the treatment would focus on increasing comfort. Read the rest of this entry »
What is Conjunctivitis?
Conjunctivitis, also known as “pink eye” is an eye disease especially common in children. There are several types of conjunctivitis and some can be very contagious. You can get both at school and at home. Read on to learn more about conjunctivitis and what you can do to control infection.
Conjunctivitis is an inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, a transparent membrane that lines the inner eyelid and the white of the eye. If it is an infection may be bacterial or viral infection.
If inflammation could also be caused by an allergic reaction to an irritant in the air like smoke or other pollution, pollen, cosmetics, or chlorine from a pool or pool. In fact, people who suffer from seasonal allergies are more prone to conjunctivitis. In some cases, certain STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) such as gonorrhea or chlamydia can cause conjunctivitis. Read the rest of this entry »
Diagnosis of Astigmatism
Can astigmatism be a sign of other eye disease?
Some eye diseases can be manifested by a progressive astigmatism, including a corneal disease called keratoconus, in which the cornea is taking an increasingly more conical.
How ophthalmologist astigmatism diagnosed?
The ophthalmologist will check visual acuity for distance vision and near, and controls the exact degree of astigmatism by a device called a refractometer, which lets you know the type and degree of astigmatism that have each, to prescribe corrective lenses adapted to each case.
The ophthalmologist also look for possible associated anomalies, including possible responsible astigmatism eye diseases. Read the rest of this entry »
Astigmatism
What is astigmatism?
Astigmatism is a vision defect that affects about 15% of the general population. There may be isolated or associated with other refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia).
Why should astigmatism?
Astigmatism is caused by irregularities in the curvature of the cornea, so that refraction varies between “meridians” of the eye. On the optical plane, these irregularities cause the image of a point is not exactly the image of a point, but an area between two zones, front and back.
Thus, the astigmatic eye is constantly blurring, and try to fix it in the accommodation, ie the contraction or stretching of the lens (a lens that is in the eye and serves to focus images), so one of the two focal areas to be placed on the retina, allowing you to see clearly a part of the object in focus. Angiography
What is angiography?
Angiography is usually one imaging to visualize blood vessels required for this substance in contrast, to circulate around them, allowing the observation of their shape, thickness, layout and permeability. An angiogram angiography but is actually done on the network of vessels of the fundus (retina) and a special dye called fluorescein substance (red-orange).
Why use a fluorescent substance?
This type does not use X-ray angiography as the other angiography, because the image is photographed directly by the fluorescence light and the substance used by the network of vessels of the retina is the only part of the circulatory tree we can see directly. Why not require radiation to penetrate into the body, such as X-rays or other. Read the rest of this entry »
Diagnosis of Ametropia
How ametropia ophthalmologist diagnosed?
The ophthalmologist will check visual acuity for distance vision and near, and controls the visual power of the eye using a device called a refractometer, which lets you know the type and degree of ametropia suffering each and allows you to prescribe optical correction each case.
The ophthalmologist also look for abnormalities of the retina or the lens to check that no other reason for the loss of visual acuity.
In children it is very important to graduation as early as possible, since a proper correction of defects that can occur before the age of 9 allows proper eye development. Defects not corrected before then cause the eye is not fully developed, being able to cause amblyopia, which is what is commonly known as lazy eye. The case of children is special, since in most cases it is necessary to graduate with a dilated pupil, as this avoids forcing the eye and distort the final ranking. Read the rest of this entry »
Ametropia and Refractive Errors
What is a refractive error?
The eye is an optical system, which, under normal conditions, allow images to be formed on the retina (a membrane sensorineural light sensitive lining inside the eye). Each eye has a certain optical power, refractive power call. Refractive errors are anomalies of the refractive power, which makes the image was not clearly projected on the retina.
Refractive errors usually are constitutional (congenital), though in some cases may be secondary (or acquired). When refractive errors are constitutional, they are called ametropia.
Ametropia are myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. They are the most frequent cause of consultation in ophthalmology. Read the rest of this entry »
National Health Strategy For Eye Health
Eye Health in Peru, according to figures reported by the National Eye Institute – INO – there are about 160.000 blind and about 600,000 people with visual disabilities, compromising the quality of life, integral development and good family people .
A level in Latin America is estimated at 3 million the number of blind, 60% due to cataract and refractive services, 20% for glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy of prematurity, of which 70% are in a position to poverty and extreme poverty.
Faced with increasing demand for eye health problem, the Ministry of Health, created by RM No. 712-2007/MINSA, National Health Strategy Eye Health and Blindness Prevention, dated September 6, 2007; which emphasizes the comprehensive care and prevention interventions, care and rehabilitation, optimizing the most human and technological resources that meet sanitary permit to any person about your eye health, as a right to health.
In Peru, the cataract is the leading cause of blindness, 50% of cases according to field studies using a methodology RACSS (rapid Assess-ment of cataract surgical services) – WHO. Most cataracts are a degenerative process of lens opacity associated with aging of individuals, whose initial peak is 50 years old.
Special mention cataracts are affecting the child, that early deprivation of vision can cause amblyopia and decades of disability, by roughly 300 cases of congenital cataract, with the genetic and infectious causes, among others. Another important cause is diabetes mellitus, which causes metabolic disorders in the lens leads to cataract. Less common causes of ocular trauma, intraocular inflammation, etc.
In Peru, the main cause of bilateral cataract blindness with 47% followed by uncorrected refractive errors with 15%, 14% glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy with 5%.
37% of the cataract blind are distributed in highland and jungle regions, with a largely rural population, while 63% is located in marginal areas of the coast, including Lima and Callao. Read the rest of this entry »
Have a great Eyecare
Inappropriate behavior such as reading in dim light, working at the computer for too many hours, poor posture, and even snuff or a diet low in vitamins can affect your eye health. Know how to prevent major discomfort and improve your visual field.
1. What is Visual Health?
Is the absence of eye disease, accompanied by good visual acuity. The visual acuity in some cases (hipermiopía, myopia, astigmatism), may require the assistance of glasses, but that does not mean that the eye has a disease.Care is to have healthy habits, healthy diet, adequate intake of vitamins (A, C, E …), either through diet or supplements, and consumption of antioxidant elements (present in several vitamins and minerals) appear to have health benefits in general and specifically for eye health.
2. Bad habits
To maintain good eye health is to avoid all those habits that may require an effort of the eye and not wearing appropriate optical correction or excess lighting or defect, malnutrition, vitamin deficiency, improper hygiene and face eyes and eyelids constantly touching your hands dirty, which can cause infections, smoking, which dries out the tear, squeeze or rub eyes when they bite because it causes cornea problems, not enough sleep, because during sleep ocular surface recovers from the attacks all day and there is a regeneration of epithelial cells that line the front of the eye, do not use proper glasses to protect us from the sun?
Lifestyle will greatly influence the eye disease, especially the factors related to diet and lack of vitamins. In addition, poor health habits increase the likelihood of developing conjunctivitis, poor lighting speeds eyestrain and eye fatigue, squeezing his eyes and touch many favors constantly keratoconus (a disease of the cornea), and also have more severe disease of the cornea by improper use of contact lenses. Care of eyes and eyelids
The first signs of aging are seen in the eyes.
Always talked about the seduction of Arab women through their eyes, in fact in some countries is the only body part that can be displayed in public. In the case of the odalisque, the eye makeup is the most important task and that should work more carefully to give the characteristics of the race, especially if you do not have the typical features of the Middle East. The product traditionally used to frame the eye is the black kohl (eyeliner kind of dust that gets on imported food stores and some drugstores Arabs), however it is replaced increasingly by modern products that have higher ductility the time to give a perfect finish to the grooming of the dancer Read the rest of this entry »
