The three main factors you must take to prevent breast cancer are:

- Bring a healthy diet: the American Cancer Association recommends a diet low in fat. Moreover, not only helps you maintain your weight but also to prevent other diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension.

- Try to maintain a healthy weight and exercise: obesity is a risk factor for breast cancer, especially when you gain weight after menopause. If you exercise regularly, it is easier to have a healthy weight. Try to make at least 30 minutes daily.

- Limit your intake of alcohol: There is a correlation between alcohol consumption and breast cancer. Whether wine, beer, vodka, no difference. If you drink alcoholic beverages, the key is that you avoid alcohol consumption to one drink per day or you remove it completely.

Finally, remember to share this information with all women. With that, you can help in the fight against breast cancer and help save lives.

Here we have a new study that was presented at a conference, in which Hispanic women may be more likely to die from breast cancer compared with non-Hispanic white women. See more details on this and how you can prevent breast cancer.

Breast cancer is not only more common among women around the world but also, including the most common cause of cancer death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in the so-called developed and those in developing countries, reported about 690 thousand new cases per year.

In particular, it is estimated that in 2008, 1.38 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer, which is also the fifth leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Year, about 458 thousand people die of breast cancer.

In the Americas region, it affects 320.000 women and causes the deaths of 82.000, while U.S. figures reach the 182 000 and 40 000 women, respectively.

Beyond geography, there appear to be biological conditions that cause breast cancer causes more deaths in one ethnic group than another. What does this mean? That breast cancer does not affect them equally to all women.

A recent study presented at the Breast Cancer Symposium 2011 in San Antonio, Texas, United States, found that Hispanic women are 20 percent higher chance of dying from breast cancer than non-Hispanic white women. The researchers suggested this could be due to biological differences in tumors, which would be more resistant to chemotherapy.

To reach these conclusions, the experts noted the risk of breast cancer of 692 Hispanic women and white non-Hispanic New Mexico, from 1992 to 1996, while a separate study followed 577 women with invasive breast cancer by 2008 to assess differences in survival rates.

Thus, the researchers found that Hispanic women were about 20 percent more likely to die due to breast cancer than non-Hispanic white women. The possibilities were reduced almost the same level between the two groups, when the researchers adjusted the data based on age, disease progression, involvement of lymph nodes and estrogen receptor.

However, as this research was presented at a medical meeting, its data and conclusions should be considered preliminary until publication (when this information is reviewed again by a group of medical colleagues).

Meanwhile, no matter what ethnic group you belong to, remember that despite scientific advances in the treatment of breast cancer, the best way to combat it is through early detection and diagnosis.

You yourself can learn to examine yourself at home, to see a specialist as soon as possible if you notice something strange. And of course, be sure to visit your gynecologist for your regular checkups, even if you feel good.

It has long stressed the idea that eating lots of fruits and vegetables play an important role in cancer prevention. While a diet rich in vegetables and fruits is essential for good health, a new study notes that there is no concrete evidence that increased consumption of these foods protect against cancer. Here I tell you what it is this new study, which anyway does not mean you should stop eating healthily. On the contrary, as obesity in contrast, does increase the risk of cancer.

Whenever we talk about good health, come to light two necessities in a healthy diet: fruits and vegetables. If you incorporate these foods into your daily diet, surely will be more healthy in every way: have a healthy weight, you will help your heart health, increase your chances of having normal pressure and cholesterol under control.

It was long thought that even the increased consumption of vegetables and fruits could prevent development of cancer. But now, it is no concrete evidence proving that this is true.

But beware! Do not assume that this study does not speak of the beneficial properties of fruits and vegetables. Only refers to the increased consumption does not seem to be directly related to the protection against cancer. So concluded scientists at the University of Oxford in England, after several years of analysis of these two factors.

The study was published in the British Journal of Cancer found that there are other elements of diet that actually increase the risk of developing cancer: obesity and alcohol consumption. This, not counting other habits such as snuff, which is the main cause of this condition.

People who are overweight do have an increased risk of developing cancer because they have higher levels of certain hormones that can cause this disease. And what can you do to avoid being overweight? Eating a healthy diet and exercise. In that sense, eating fruits and vegetables, no doubt, will benefit you and protect you from developing certain cancers that are common in obese people: breast, kidney, pancreas and esophagus, among others.

You must also remove excess alcohol from your diet. Not only because it gives many calories that contribute to weight gain, but because when the body processes the alcohol releases certain chemicals that damage cells, which increases the risk of developing cancer of the mouth, throat, breast and liver.

The key, according to the findings of this study, to keep the cancer under control is to maintain a healthy weight and limit alcohol consumption. But I repeat: to maintain a healthy weight, you need a healthy diet. And a healthy diet, no doubt consists of several nutrient-rich foods, including fruits and vegetables.

Scientists at the Cancer Institute of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, said about these findings: “the effect of fruit and vegetables in protecting against cancer is not as large as previously thought.” However, it is important that they are always present on your plate to scrap a major risk factor when it comes to cancer: the overweight.

Remember that the recommendation regarding alcoholic beverages is as follows: for women, a maximum of one drink per day for men and two drinks a day. This also helps to not gain weight as you lower your risk of developing cancer.

If you have questions about how to live a healthier diet, you can see other articles in Life and Health is about and of course, ask your doctor.

Surely you’ve heard it’s good to include in the diet a moderate dose of alcohol, because they bring health benefits, especially for the heart. But, how much is moderate and what are the benefits of taking a drink or a drink from time to time? Read on to find out.

When you go to take with your friends and the next day you wake up with a hangover, you remember the famous phrase: “you have to drink in moderation.” Although it is too late to think about moderate drinking because you took all the shots of the night, and do not head to spinning, never too late to learn why drinking in moderation is beneficial to health.

The problem arises when you want to define how much is “moderation.” A cup, two, four? What does it depend?

Moderate drinking means the following:
- Two glasses/drink a day if you are a man of 65 or younger
- A cup/drink a day if you’re a woman or if you are a man of 66 years or more.

How can you know which equates a drink or a drink?

- A drink is 12 ounces or 35 milliliters of beer, 5 ounces or 148 milliliters of wine or 1.5 ounces or 44 milliliters of distilled spirits.
- The health benefits of incorporating alcohol in moderation in your diet are:
- Reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease or heart
- Reduces the risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke
- Reduces the risk of strokes and brain injuries or strokes
- May reduce the risk of diabetes
- Reduces risk of calculi (stones) in the gallbladder

However, it is very important not to overdo the amount listed. Heavy drinking can cause considerable damage to health, including:
- Pancreatitis, especially in people with elevated triglyceride levels in your blood
- Cancer of the liver, pancreas, esophagus, mouth, larynx, pharynx, and cancer of the breast.
- Heart muscle damage and alcoholic cardiomyopathy
- Spills or strokes or strokes.
- High blood pressure.
- Abortion
- Cirrhosis
- Fetal malformations
- Injury from a car accident while driving under the influence of alcohol
- Depression and suicidal tendencies

Remember that alcohol is only good when taken with measure. This does not mean that we recommend you start drinking if you do not drink. Alcohol is not necessary for health. There are many ways to stay healthy without it. This is for people who drink to do so in moderation. So do not overdo it!

In some people, lupus can be presented in a mild but sometimes can be very serious and even fatal. And as you can attack various parts of the body, symptoms are varied. Among them, for example:

- Fever, malaise and nausea.
- Loss of appetite and weight.
- Muscle pain, with pain and inflammation (swelling) of the joints.
- Rash (rash) as a butterfly on the cheeks and nose.
- Skin sensitivity to sunlight, causing a rash (rash) extended (this is known as photo-sensitivity of the skin).
- Hair loss.
- Painful sores in the mouth, nose and genital areas.
- Headaches, seizures, difficulty thinking and hallucinations.
- Heart problems (such as abnormal heart rhythms and heart failure).
- Painful breathing.
- Loss of vision.

So far, the alternatives that exist to combat these symptoms included anti-inflammatory drugs, antimalarials (malaria drugs), corticosteroids and immunosuppressants, among others.

To this list now adds Benlysta (generic name is belimumab), the first medicine to fight this disease that is approved since 1955, which was developed specifically to combat the symptoms of lupus (unlike the older drugs, which also is used for other diseases).

The new drug will be available as an injection. It was developed by the pharmaceutical company Human Genome Sciences and will be marketed in conjunction with GlaxoSmithKline.

While this drug helps combat the symptoms of lupus, apparently only works in a group of patients with certain types of lupus and is not effective against deadly forms of the disease or people of color. However, the determination of the FDA’s good news that makes Benlysta open the door to new investigations and to discover other more effective drugs to continue in the fight against lupus.

It is an injectable drug designed to treat the rash and pain caused by lupus, a condition of the immune system (defense) that for some reason causes some cells to attack others. And although this disease can happen to anyone, it is known that lupus is more common in women.

For the first time after 56 years, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA for short) approved a new drug to treat lupus, an immune system disease that causes the body to attack its own organs and tissues and in some cases be fatal.

Lupus is a disease which, although not very common, it is more common in women and can cause inflammation and tissue damage in joints, skin, kidneys, nervous system (including brain, spinal cord and nerves), blood, heart, lungs, digestive system and eyes. Different types of lupus and for example, a person may have affected only the skin. One can also say that the intensity with which the person shows symptoms can be different and that the organs involved in each person may be different and there may be stages in the disease is active meas stages the disease is less active or you know “in remission”.

The cause of disease are unknown. There are several theories, among them are the following:

- Hormones, such as 9 in 10 people with lupus are women, usually of childbearing age (lupus usually presents between 15 and 44 years old).
- Inheritance, since it runs in families.
- Ethnicity (race), as there are indications that the disease may be more common in people of African blood, Indian-American, West Indian and China.
- A virus or other infection.

Vitiligo, like we said before, no cure. From the medical point of view, it is not necessary to treat you because you do not cause damage that threatens your life. Of course, you must protect your skin from sun exposure no. The always apply yourself a sunscreen protects your skin and improves its appearance. If you burn, the difference in color between skin pigment and is not pigmented, they note.

There are some treatments that can help improve, from the aesthetic point of view, the appearance of skin with vitiligo:

- Topical corticosteroids (local) can promote repigmentation of the skin (color back), especially if applied at an early stage of the disease, while still expressed only in small areas. This treatment should be closely monitored by the doctor because it produces other side effects such as skin atrophy and stretch marks.

- Photochemotherapy: The combination of ultraviolet photoactive substances (ie reacting to light). Photoactive substances (drugs called psoralens) contain chemicals that react with ultraviolet light and cause the skin to regain its color after being applied to the skin or taken orally. This therapy tends to be effective if less than 20% of your body has lost its color. It is essential that an ongoing monitoring of the physician to avoid side effects can be serious (such as blisters or severe burns).

- Depigmentation: If vitiligo covers more than half of your skin, depigmentation therapy removes the skin color is still white spotted it again. This treatment requires a cream applied on areas of skin that have yet pigment.

If you are diagnosed with vitiligo, can be an emotional and psychological blow strong enough. Nobody likes to discolor your skin and do not like having white patches that affect their appearance. It is not easy to look in the mirror and see that the skin of your face, your hands, your arms and your feet are losing their color. Many people worry and get depressed thinking about the reaction others may have to change their appearance. You may feel shame and stress. All this is normal.

However, there are ways to overcome the impact of this disease. You can read as much as possible about it, establish a good relationship with your dermatologist for help with your loved ones to express your feelings on the subject, and find support groups to talk with others who have this disease.

The skin is the largest organ of the body and our letter of introduction to the world. So, having vitiligo can seriously affect the self esteem of people who think they are beautiful when they are these white spots that take away the original color to the skin. If you have vitiligo, here we give you information about its causes, treatment and how you can do to feel better with this condition.

Remember when the late Michael Jackson lost its black color on the skin and turned white as a ghost? Everyone said it wanted to remove the pigment of their skin, not wanting to be black. But he defended himself by saying that in fact, had vitiligo. The truth is that it may be true, because the vitiligo affects a high percentage of people with dark skin, but really, can occur in people of any race. It affects those who suffer emotionally because he can not hide and can affect your self esteem.

What exactly is vitiligo? Imagine that one day white patches begin to appear in different areas of your skin. This happens because melanin, which is the pigment that gives skin its color longer occurs. Specifically, the cells that form the pigment, called melanocytes, are destroyed. Why? The cause is not yet known with certainty but is believed to be an autoimmune disease that is, which the body destroys them.

Who gives vitiligo? Throughout the world, it is believed that vitiligo affects 2% of the population. It is estimated that the United States, between 2 and 5 million people suffer from this condition. Vitiligo can occur in both men and women of all races and usually develops before age 40.
What are the causes of vitiligo?

There are many theories about what causes it, but it is not known for sure what triggers it and why it develops. You may have a hereditary factor. In other cases, people with vitiligo say they have gone through a traumatic event emotionally, or that began after having had a sunburn. But in fact scientists have not determined the cause of vitiligo. Perhaps for this reason has not yet found a cure for this disease, nor how to prevent it.

What are the symptoms of vitiligo?

Vitiligo occurs through the loss of skin pigment in different areas. Generally, the hands, the areas around moles, and other areas exposed to sunlight are the first affected. The occurrence of white spots is also common around bodily orifices, but can occur even in the mouth, for example. If you notice these symptoms, please consult your physician for diagnosis.
