Heart Surgery: Emergency

heart surgery: emergencyIf the submission of a medical emergency, as they stop breathing or have heart arrest, it is assumed that the patient accepts the treatment. In the United States there are certain legal options with regard to medical treatment. These decisions are individual rights. If you feel you need help to make them, you can talk with a relative, a priest, a clergy member or counselor.

Remember, this is a decision only you, can do or not do. You have the right to refuse or accept medical treatment before they are needed because of an emergency. Can you clarify a legal document that you do not want emergency technicians try to re-make the heart beat or that place a special machine to restore breathing.

You may need to give specific instructions to your family and other people to know in advance what your wishes in the event of an emergency. In the U.S. there is a legal document known as “care instructions” (“advance directive”) that specifies your wishes in the event of an emergency. The document specifies the measures and treatments that you approve and if not approved during the emergency that you can not think or speak clearly.

Care instructions include several documents:

- Living Will that specifies your wishes in the event of a medical emergency, severe disability or chronic illness.
- Power broker in emergency care (durable medical power of attorney), which gives power of attorney to a relative or friend to run and allow your wishes in case of emergency.
- Instructions to deny the use of cardiopulmonary resurrection (“no cardiopulmonary resucitation”).
- Power broker of medical decisions (medical proxies), a relative or friend in charge of executing and authorize their wishes regarding medical care.
