Solar Dermatitis: Steps to Avoid
What steps can be taken to avoid sunburn?
It’s annoying back from a vacation with injuries to the skin. The best remedy is to use a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF). The SPF indicates the protective effectiveness of the cream to harmful light rays.
People who are more sensitive to sunlight should initially apply a lotion with an SPF of 20 or greater before any sun exposure and often renew the application, especially in prolonged sun exposure and after swimming. In sunburn, the placement of wet dressings cause a sense of relief, ointments or creams can be used as glucocorticoid treatment.
What is dermatitis due to drug-induced photosensitivity?
Phototoxic dermatitis can be caused by the action of sunlight on skin exposed to photosensitizing substances. Requires less solar radiation dose than normal sunburn, because the skin is sensitized to certain substances. Some are specific to the body and other external (exogenous) and tars applied to the skin or certain medications taken by mouth. Some substances such as perfume, can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight and certain drugs such as tetracyclines (antibiotics) and phenothiazines (antipsychotics) may also produce this effect. Clinical symptoms and treatment will be similar to sunburn and protection.
Photoallergic dermatosis occurs when there is a specific allergy to a substance, and results in skin damage following exposure of skin to UV radiation. It can produce sensitization of the patient through skin contact, or after oral administration of a drug, such as some diuretics or sulfonamides. Photoallergic dermatitis can be avoided by eliminating contact with substances that cause it. You should consult your doctor before going on vacation.
