Colitis is a chronic digestive disease, which occurs due to inflammation of the colon. The condition is inflammatory and affects the tissue lining the gastrointestinal tract. People with colitis is necessary to ingest enough protein, calories, vitamins (A, D, C, B-12 and folic acid), minerals (calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium) and the other nutrients to stay healthy. There are foods that should be avoided too. Indeed, regime change has been found to be effective in treating symptoms of colitis and reduce side effects. Recommended Colitis Diet
- Milk and other dairy products can lead to bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Thus, taking in foods with a low level of lactose such as yogurt and hard cheese.
- Fatty foods such as butter, margarine, vegetable oil, processed snacks, meat, fast food and fried or battered food may trigger abdominal symptoms. The reason is that eating these foods may lead to malabsorption in the body. Read the rest of this entry »
